We advise on a full range of US international income tax matters, covering most aspects of our clients’ business and personal lives.
A core part of our practice is providing ongoing advisory services to our clients, the majority of whom are based outside the US. Our clients look to us to advise on complex business restructurings, help them to navigate and understand the impact on them and their business of tax law changes, work with them on start-up or expansion plans (including to the US) and help them “align” the multiple tax systems to which they are subject.
We also provide US transactional tax advice. Clients rely on us for practical advice regarding tax-efficient and flexible acquisition structures and US tax considerations related to sales of, or equity investments into, their businesses. We regularly work with management on private equity transactions, providing US tax advice as part of management’s team of advisors.
Clients who are interested in investing in US real estate or other US investments come to us for US federal income and estate tax advice on the most tax-efficient way to structure these investments and, in due course, the best way to dispose of them.
If our clients decide to move to the US, whether for business or personal reasons, we can help them with US pre-immigration planning to ensure their assets and affairs are arranged taking the US tax rules into account.
Many of our clients come to us for estate planning advice, particularly when multi-jurisdictional tax considerations must be taken into account. We work with our clients to ensure their estate plans achieve the desired results for their families whilst also being tax-efficient from a US standpoint.
If our clients wish to renounce their US citizenships or green cards, we help them to navigate the expatriation process. We provide advice on clients’ potential exit tax liability and assist them with the practical requirements of renunciation.
We also frequently advise non-compliant US taxpayers on their compliance, most often through one of the IRS’s amnesty programs.
We approach our advice to clients holistically, taking into account each client’s particular situation, their goals and their values to provide the best technical and practical advice for their circumstances.
